臺灣棒球盛行，為培養棒球好手，市府決定興建亞太國際棒球訓練中心，推動臺灣棒球接軌國際。自103年7月已陸續辦理「亞太國際棒球訓練中心興建工程委託專案管理(含監造)技術服務案」及「亞太國際棒球訓練中心第一階段環境影響評估委託服務工作」，且已完成招標評選作業，預計107年完成啟用。

亞太國際棒球訓練中心基地面積約為30.27公頃，位於安南區東北側和順寮公39用地，與國立臺灣歷史博物館基地相鄰。

工務局表示，目前本計畫委託專案管理(含監造)技術服務案評選已完成，將著手進行初步規劃及後續設計方向，期能朝向規劃亞太國際棒球訓練中心未來成為一複合式棒球訓練中心，與目前其他縣市政府興建的單一功能棒球場有所不同。俟興建完成後，能提升國內棒球場地設施設備水準，並提高國內棒球運動國際視野，作為國內各級棒球及亞太地區各棒球隊移地訓練場地。
