越南與中國因為南海海域上的鑽油平台而劍拔弩張，越南人民發起示威，但是示威活動變了調，成了目標對準中國投資廠區的暴力打砸搶，並且造成死亡。這項越南人的抗議活動更不分青紅皂白的波及台灣產商業界在越南的投資廠區。看到台商沒命似的逃離暴亂危城，畫面怵目驚心。

事情鬧得不可開交，我們很難不看到國際媒體對這件事的報導。「暴動」的英語字彙是riot，「抗議」是protest，而這次的暴動據說是源自越南政府默許的「示威」，示威的英語字彙是demonstration。

華人紛紛躲避，因為據說這個週末還會有大規模的示威：
Whether the demonstration will be held this weekend remains uncertain.
（週末是否會舉行示威仍不確定。）

抗議中國的示威活動在河內與胡志明市，示威群眾成千上萬：
Vietnamese protesters staged large anti-China demonstrations with thousands of people gathering in multiple cities.
（越南抗議者發動大型反華示威，成千上萬的人在數個城市聚集。）

台資企業也受到波及：
The Taiwanese businesses were targeted in an apparent case of mistaken identity by demonstrators.
（台灣企業在明顯的錯認身份個案中被示威者當作目標。）

暴動的「riot」與抗議的「protest」不一定在國際職場出現，倒是「示威」的「demonstration」可是國際職場與多益測驗（www.toeic.com.tw）的核心字彙，藉此機會學一學此字的用法。

demonstration在國際政治的新聞英語中，最常出現的用法是「示威、示威活動」，但是在國際職場與多益測驗裡，它還有另一重要用法是「示範、示範表演、展示、演示、表露」之意。demonstration是名詞，讀作[͵dɛmənˋstreʃən]，它的動詞是demonstrate，讀作[`dɛmənˏstret]，小心不要讀成[ˏdɪ`mɑnstret]，那樣是母音與重音都不正確；而此次越南排華活動中的示威者是字尾「-or」表示「人」的「demonstrator」。

例句：
Various 3D drawing techniques will be demonstrated in the computer fair.
（在電腦博覽會上有人將表演展示各種3D繪圖技巧。）

The marketing manager will be doing a product demonstration at the kitchen appliance convention in Seoul.
（行銷部經理將在首爾的廚具展進行產品示範。）
