成語「如魚得水」在英文中常常用take to something like a duck to water或as a duck takes to water來表達，這或許是因為鴨子在路上走路看似笨拙，一進入水中就悠遊自在，所以用來形容人處在很順遂的環境，或做某件事感到輕而易舉。除此之外，另一個常見片語「duck soup」也是指某件事很容易、做起來毫不費力，是a piece of cake（小事一樁）。
例：James is a born salesman. He takes to selling cars like a duck to water. （詹姆士是天生的業務員，在賣車的工作中如魚得水。）
例：His company sustains the competitive advantage. Making money is duck soup to him. （他的公司具有競爭優勢，賺錢對他來說很容易。）
A sitting duck 容易被攻擊的目標
飛在天上的鴨子不容易打中，但坐在地上的鴨子卻是很容易攻擊的目標，因此a sitting duck便用來形容一個很容易遭到傷害的對象。

Water off a duck’s back 不起作用、沒有影響
鴨子的身體會自行分泌油脂，因此即使鑽進水裡再出來，身上的羽毛也不會溼，水對於鴨毛毫無影響，因此water off a duck's back就用來比喻不起作用、沒有影響。
例：I keep telling my friends not to make noises, but my words are just like water off a duck’s back. （我一直要求我的朋友們不要製造噪音，但我的話就是起不了任何作用。）
