英國東印度公司是西元1600年12月31日，英國女王伊莉莎白一世授予該公司皇家特許狀，給予它在印度貿易的特權而組成。

因為英國東印度公司是在17世紀才成立的，所以16世紀它的貿易船是不會從英國航行到中國的！

另外，約在1679年法國物理學家丹尼斯·巴本在觀察蒸汽冒出他的高壓鍋後製造了第一台蒸汽機的工作模型。約與此同時薩繆爾·莫蘭也提出了蒸汽機的主意。1698年托馬斯·塞維利、1712年托馬斯·紐科門和1769年詹姆斯·瓦特改良出早期的工業蒸汽機，他們對蒸汽機的發展都做出了自己的貢獻。第一艘可以使用的蒸汽輪船是1783年下水的，而1807年羅伯特·富爾頓則是第一個成功地用蒸汽機來驅動輪船。

所以，在16世紀的時候也不會有蒸氣機與蒸汽船的出現。
